The title is a 4v1 “hunt or haunt” where a team of four goes up against a ghost. You can play as either a Proton Pack-weidling Ghostbuster, or try and outwit your human enemies by advoiding getting caught in a Ghost Trap. As a Ghostbuster, you will work together to find the Ghost, blast them with streams from the Particle Thrower to keep them in place, and shut the trap at the right moment....

A daft party game for up to four players, you can “discover the joys of being ancient and brittle” as you play as old folk trying to win a ticket to a classy retirement home. That involves death, destruction and challenges using trampolines, severed heads, rockets, ceiling fans, vehicles, wings and glue guns to humiliate and electrocute each other - as well as millennials and zoomers knocking around the world....

One of the most concerning parts of the footage we saw was how choppy it looked. Alongside the new footage, we learned that Gotham Knights will only launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC – forgoing a release on the last-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, altoghether. Whilst that is good (it’s always nice to have games that aren’t constrained by old hardware), we’d have expected the footage on-show to be really impressive and flashy… not filled with texture issues and slowdown, and looking quite blurry in places....

It’s a survival game like Ark: Survival Evolved, but instead of battering dinosaurs you’re crapping your pants because ladybirds are scary when you’re the size of an ant....

Hades has been an immense success, already selling well over 1,000,000 copies across PC and Nintendo Switch. The game quickly became one of the highest-rated titles of the year after a stealth launch via a Nintendo Direct Mini back in September. The game was supposed to arrive with the ability to transfer saves between Switch and PC at launch, but the feature was postponed to prevent delaying the entire game....

Valve has released the official set of mod tools for Half-Life: Alyx, and opened a Steam Workshop page dedicated to all of the game’s mods. The tools are still in beta, but the release is significant for a number of reasons. The most obvious is that creators can now dig deeper into the game’s code and modify it to create new experiences, or mess around with joke mods. They also provide unprecedented access to the latest version of Valve’s Source Engine, which could prove useful down the line if modders decide to port an old game to it, or recreate classic levels within it....

Modder Lance McDonald, credited with uncovering many of the secrets and cut content in Bloodborne and other FromSoftware games, has returned with an update on their famous 60fps patch project. As previously revealed, McDonald has been working on a way to unlock the game’s framerate on PS4 Pro. Once unlocked, the idea was to use boost mode to force framerates above 30fps, which also means lowering the game’s base resolution so it can maintain a locked 60fps....

Fatshark, purveyor of solid co-op action, has unleashed a new trailer for Warhammer 40K: Darktide - the studio’s upcoming game set thousands of years into the future. Darktide’s initial reveal was brief, but today’s Game Awards 2020 trailer more than makes up for it with a solid look at gameplay from the four different classes. The footage shows that Fatshark is sticking with the class split fans of Vermintide and Vermintide 2 should be familiar with....

Outbreak, which is interconnected with the Call of Duty series’ on-going Dark Aether storyline, asks that players band together to achieve objective-based challenges across the largest multiplayer maps in 2020’s Black Ops Cold War. Using a satellite tracker, players will need to escort a Rover that detects dimensional portals and then kill anything that’s crawled out of these space-time anomalies (usually zombies) once they’re located. Hitman 3 developer IO Interactive has announced some disappointing news about the modes that will and won’t make the transition to the upcoming game. Ghost Mode, and the online portion of Sniper Assassin mode are both going away. Ghost Mode was a competitive multiplayer experience introduced in Hitman 2 that allowed two players to race against each other to complete objectives, occasionally foiling each other’s plans. IO says that on top of the mode not returning in Hitman 3, its servers will also be turned off in Hitman 2 come August 31....

Some issues have been resolved, but others remain, including graphical issues with shimmering, sharpening, and screen saturation. In the meantime, Guerrilla continues to investigate these issues. It’s worth noting that some patch notes and known issues may contain spoilers. You have been warned. If this does not concern you, read on. Some players have reported that the Firegleam icons do not get removed from the map after interacting with them, and the side quest ‘Breaking Even’ can sometimes result in being unable to talk to Porguf when Talanah is in Camp Nowhere, blocking the progression of this quest....

If you’re a new player however, or left YuGiOh around the peak years of the Duellist’s Kingdom and Battle City arcs in the anime, Synchro Summons can be confusing to wrap your Duel Disk around. What’s more, while you can pick up a Synchro deck right from the beginning of the game, Master Duel assumes you know exactly how to use it without any guidance - the Synchro tutorial doesn’t come up for a while in the Solo mode....

In a hands-off presentation at Gamescom, I was shown a very bubbly and overtly energetic video that highlighted the main gist of Hyenas: infiltrate a spaceship-cum-shopping-mall, pilfer loot (the relics of a ruined earth), and escape before anyone else can hunt you down and take your shit. The game itself – complete with zero-g sections that make you rethink gun fights, and special abilities that’d make even Apex Legends think ‘oh, that’s a bit much’ – seems tight....

To be fair to Sonic Frontiers on Switch, the stage levels are decent – although a long way from ideal in terms of frame rate. These rollercoaster-esque runs are comparable to the other console versions in a “couldn’t be bothered to put on my glasses” way. You can tell it’s a fair bit rougher, but it passes. Where things start to unravel, sadly, is in the open world areas. My word, are these areas unpleasant on the eyes – and no amount of squinting can save it....
