Dying Light developer Techland is kicking off the game’s fifth anniversary celebrations by giving away free copies of Dying Light: Bad Blood to all current and future owners of the main game. April will see a series of events revolving around the mutated infected, the second set of challenges in May, and the first story DLC is scheduled for June. Stating previously there would be at least five years worth of post-release content, looking past June 2022, you can expect a second story DLC, new weapons and enemies, new stories and events, and new free and paid DLC....

As part of its earnings call for Q4 2020 and the full 2020 fiscal year, EA shared a general outlook on its plans for FY2021, which began in April and ends in March 2021. The publisher confirmed that it’s going to support the Nintendo Switch with “multiple” games during FY2021. This all begins with Burnout Paradise Remastered, which is due on Switch this summer. Over the same period, we can also expect multi-platform releases of four sports titles in FIFA 21, Madden 21, NHL 21 and a fourth unannounced sports title - likely a basketball game....

According to Respawn, the decision to take Apex Legends Mobile offline did not come easy, but “factors” beyond its control have prevented it from “maintaining the high-quality experience and content” players deserve and expect. In an official announcement, the companies stated that despite a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile began to “fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence.” Released for Android and iOS in May 2022, servers will be taken offline on May 1....

In 2018, the Kansspelautoriteit, Netherland’s Gaming Authority, held an investigation into loot boxes and their relation to gambling in ten games. The Ksa found four of them to be in violation of gambling laws in the country. At the time, the Ksa didn’t reveal the four offending games, though FIFA is believed to have been among them. Nevertheless, the Gaming Authority gave everyone until June of the same year to make the necessary changes, or risk facing fines....

That said, update 1.04 does introduce a couple of new features, such as the ability to turn camera auto rotation on/off, as well as new quest steps for Patches - who had a tendency to disappear from some players’ games. The rest of the patch notes reference a tonne of buffs and nerfs for Sorceries, Incantations, and Weapon Skills (Ashes of War). Some of the lesser-used ones, like the Kick skill, has been buffed, while a few of the overused, such as the The Flame of Frenzy Incantation, has been nerfed....

Elex 2 was announced today, after a few teasers from developer Piranha Bytes. The sequel to the 2017 sci-fi action RPG returns to the world of Magalan, though not without expanding the fiction and implementing new gameplay tweaks. Elex 2 takes place following the conclusion of the original game’s story. The defeat of the Hybrid gave life to new factions, and The Berserkers have made good on their promise to terraform the planet....

Notably absent from the list is Super Smash Bros. The game not being part of this year’s line-up was revealed back in February. All mods are equal, but some mods are more equal than others. That happens to be the case with this particular mod, Fallout London, which essentially looks like an entire game in its own right. A new gameplay trailer shows off what looks to be the first roughly 20 minutes of gameplay for the “DLC-sized mod,” with a pretty classic style opening. There’s a slideshow explaining what happens when the bombs dropped in London, because war never changes, as we all know....

But in all my time with Fallout 76 - scores of hours across a year and a half - I’ve almost never seen players come to blows. While the influence of DayZ is clear in the game’s survival mechanics, a community reared on single-player RPGs chose not to engage with its competitive systems. Some visited each others’ houses and joined up to speed through quests....

A report published by Eurogamer drew attention to the build’s resurfacing. According to said report, the five-year-old build of Dead Island 2 originally appeared on a 4Chan board, where players began to download and share the file - dated from June 2015 - with others online. The build contains a variety of placeholder features in its unfinished state, but it has been confirmed to be playable. For those who don’t know, Dead Island 2 was announced way back when in 2014....

Michael Mando, known for playing complex criminals, is also the man behind Far Cry 3’s antagonist Vaas Montenegro. Mando lent his talent and likeness to the character, and it still gets him recognised in public. But Far Cry 3 came out all the way back in 2012, so it’s fair to assume that Mando has moved past that role. Not the case, according to the actor, who told a fan in a Reddit AMA that he may actually reprise his role as Vaas soon....

The PC version of Far Cry 6 supports uncapped framerates, widescreen and multi-monitors, and Ubisoft promises a rich options menu. You can also expect the game to automatically detect control method and switch to whichever is active. Far Cry 6 will also launch with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, an upsampling technology that has a similar aim to Nvidia’s DLSS (though works on GPUs made by both). That said, it’s worth noting that the specs are based on testing performed with the feature disabled, which is good news....

Naturally, some speedrunning veterans have already devised ways to clear the demo in an outlandishly short amount of time. The current world record holder, inugakushin, recently posted a 15:19 run over on Twitch, which you can check out here. It’s an Any% run, which means you can ignore certain parts of the demo that aren’t strictly necessary to progress - the only requirement here is to complete it in one way or another, so long as you do it fast....

What is there to do when the rights holder of your favourite video game series seems to have little to no interest in crafting a new game in the franchise? You can write petitions, or make as much noise as possible so the media ask about it in interviews… but another answer might be to just, well, build one on your own. Such is the case for one player, who has used Nintendo’s new Game Builder Garage to build an F-Zero prototype....

Ubisoft announced the launch date for For Honor Year 4 Season 2, and it is to be called Tyranny. You can jump in on June 11. The new season will also contain a “mysterious new hero” which will “make their presence known” on August 6. With the new season comes the return of Metal Trials which will go live on the same day. In it, you will group with up to three of your friends and battle campaign modes Tozen, Gudmundr, and Apollyon....

A particularly unexpected reveal at today’s Summer Game Fest kick off live is a new partnership. Sony is teaming up with Deviation Games, a new studio revealed to the world at the show, to work on a new AAA IP. Deviation Games is headed up by Dave Anthony, and Jason Blundell, former Call of Duty leads. Blundell’s name, of course, should be very familiar to Call of Duty fans, having been the face of Zombies for years, before he left Treyarch last year....

The Harley Quinn skin is now available in the Fortnite store and there are new Always Fantabulous Harley challenges you can complete while wearing it. Once three of the Harley Quinn challenges are complete, you’ll unlock a new variation of the skin from the Birds of Prey movie. Season 1 has been extended to February 20, so you’ve got plenty of time to complete these challenges, as well as the existing Overtime Challenges....
