In a report published by GameSpot, Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke is credited as saying that at the moment Larian is only focusing on PC and Stadia versions of its highly-anticipated D&D ’em up. Vincke also says that they haven’t even tried to run Baldur’s Gate 3 on current-gen consoles — but they haven’t necessarily ruled out that possibility. “Our focus right now is PC and Stadia,” Vincke told GameSpot....

When the studio initially unveiled Battlefield 2042, it said the game is made up of three major, separate experiences. The first is the standard All-out Warfare, which encompasses Conquest, and Breakthrough. Then there’s the community-driven Battlefield Portal, which is part advanced custom server creator, part mod tools. Hazard Zone, the third and final experience, remained a mystery since then. When the game got delayed, we were left wondering if Hazard Zone has itself been pushed back....
Ray tracing is probably the most recognizable marker of the current leap to next gen, a way to render light and image reflection in a more realistic way. Battlefield 2042 is adding Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion, a way to accurately render shadows where light is blocked. Players will need a ray tracing-capable graphics card to get the full effect. PC players will also benefit from NVIDIA DLSS, which provides significantly faster performance....
EA has announced today that a new Battlefield game is in the works alongside this year’s PC and console game. This project is specifically designed for mobile, and it’s coming to phones and tablets in 2022. The new Battlefield mobile is not a port of any existing game; it is a standalone product. It is the work of developer Industrial Toys alongside series creator DICE. Testing has already begun, but EA did not share any other details about that game....

Microsoft has announced, following reports, that Joseph Staten has joined Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries. Staten is already a Microsoft employee, having spent recent years working on various internal and external projects. But he’s also one of the original creators of Halo at Bungie. He contributed to the development of the original Halo games in a number of ways, including writing and world building. Staten continued to work at Bungie after the studio’s split with Microsoft, overseeing the inception of Destiny, only to leave just before the game shipped....

The Entertainment Retailers Association has revealed (via Eurogamer) the top 40 best-selling titles in the UK during lockdown. The period covers March 23 to June 13, with 40 titles across various categories. Video games, unsurprisingly, had the most entries on the list, with 21 titles in total. Its closes competitor was video (films and TV) with 16 titles. The list doesn’t look all that different from the weekly UK charts, though the figures are certainly interesting....
