This morning, Sony published earning results for Q3 FY2020. Seeing as that period included the PS5 launch, today’s release has been anticipated. The platform holder announced that 4.5 million PS5 consoles have been sold since November 13, meaning in just under two months. Sony, of course, previously said that the PS5 launch was its biggest console launch ever. This is all despite the console being supply constrained. Sony is hoping to sell 3 million more units by the end of the fiscal year, which would mean matching - or slightly exceeding - PS4 shipments over the same period in 2013-2014....

Sony announced today that it has sold 10 million PlayStation 5 consoles to consumers, as of July 18, 2021. This makes the PS5 Sony’s fastest-selling console ever, outpacing the PS4. Alongside revealing this impressive milestone, Sony also shared sales figure updates for a number of the most popular PlayStation games. Spider-Man: Miles Morales has now surpassed 6.5 million units sold to consumers. PS5 exclusive Returnal has shifted over 560,000 copies, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has now sold more than 1....

The third update in Season 6 of PUBG went live this morning on the game’s live servers on PC after the usual week of testing. Patch 6.3 is a bit light on content, with the biggest highlight being the addition of rocket launchers to the game for the first time, alongside a few balance tweaks. The film will star Michael B. Jordan, reprising his role as CIA operative and Navy SEAL John Clark as he forms Rainbow team. The film is a sequel to the 2021 movie Without Remorse, released through Prime due to theater closures during the pandemic. The Hollywood Reporter states Paramount intends a theatrical release; however, a decision will be made regarding that when the film is further in development. Jordan will don a producer’s hat alongside Elizabeth Raposo through their production company, Outlier Society....

As part of its earnings call for Q3 of FY2020-21, Ubisoft once again touched on Rainbow Six Quarantine, the long-in-development co-op shooter. Rainbow Six Quarantine, along with Far Cry 6, are both due out before September 30. Both games were pushed back in October to sometime between April 2021 and March 2022, so it’s good to see they won’t slip into 2022. Unfortunately, Ubisoft didn’t talk much about Quarantine, or really any of its big upcoming games....

The long-awaited summer update for Red Dead Online, Blood Money, hit the servers earlier in July, and since then players have noticed strange occurrences in the virtual Wild West wilderness. As reported by PC Gamer, player-owned horses have seemingly taken on a life of their own, and fine mares and stallions kitted out in their finery have been acting of their own accord in the game’s interpretation of the US frontier....

Originally slated to arrive in theaters on September 3, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has been delayed to November 24. According to Variety, the film was likely moved due to the September date also being the same day Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will hit theaters. After technical difficulties delayed the Resident Evil Resistance beta over the weekend, the tester is now live for PC and PlayStation 4 users. The issues which affected the Steam and PS4 version of the beta were not present on Xbox One, and players were able to try Resident Evil 3 Remake’s multiplayer portion over the weekend. The Resident Evil Resistance Open Beta test is now available for PlayStation 4 and Steam users, in addition to Xbox One....

Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher will join Team Rainbow when Operation Shadow Legacy goes live in Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft released a teaser for the new content today, alongside some key artwork. With the season, you are now able to put your shovels to use by burying treasure rather than unearthing it. After you bury it, you can make a map and either hold on to it or pin it to the Quest Board for others to find. Doing the latter will earn you both reputation and bonus Renown. Be aware though that if you put Map Bundles on the Captain’s Table they can be stolen by other pirates should they sneak aboard your ship....

Ubisoft announced during its Q1 earnings call today it will host a second Ubisoft Forward presentation in September. A date was not provided, but the company said to expect more information at a later date. The previous Ubisoft Forward event was held on July 12. During the presentation, the company announced Far Cry 6, and provided release dates for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion. It’s possible we will hear more about Gods and Monsters, which the company says will be renamed, and maybe even Skull and Bones which is reportedly undergoing a reboot....

We all love the fastest hedgehog around, we just don’t all love his games. But it seems like Sega is targeting high review scores for the next entry in the beloved-but-flawed series. As shared by VGC, during a recent analyst and investor Q&A, the company was asked if it had any targets in mind for review scores on sites like Metacritic, which Sega Sammy’s CEO Haruki Satomi and CFO Koichi Fukazawa confirmed was the case....
