Trusted Mode is the latest tool in Valve’s suite to prevent cheating in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The new mode, which is now the default state CS:GO launches in, significantly limits the types of programs that can interact with the game while it’s running. The intent, of course, is to limit certain advanced cheats from getting access to game files, but Trusted Mode has already created conflicts with perfectly benign apps....

According to VGC, the Liverpool-based studio has been handed the reigns to the first Twisted Metal game in over a deceade, and it’s supposed to launch in time to coincide with the upcoming Twisted Metal TV series Sony announced a few years back. The TV show – which is set top star Anthony Mackie – is PlayStation Productions’ first project. One person with knowledge of Lucid’s plans told VGC that the revival game would be “built around a free-to-play model” thanks – partly – to Destruction All-Stars’ last-minute shift to become a PlayStation Plus game at launch....

Launching in beta with Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Ubisoft Connect for PC, Digits will be released as part of limited Editions, each composed of a fixed number of cosmetic items. Digits are “a new way to experience cosmetic items,” which are collectible in-game vehicles, weapons, and pieces of equipment that offer players “unprecedented ways to connect with and enjoy more value from the games they love,” said Ubisoft. Each Digit is a unique collectible that features its own serial number for others to see in-game, and it also keeps track of current and previous owners....

According to a Bloomberg report, Ubisoft has suspended vice presidents Tommy Francois and Maxime Beland. Both have been accused of “at least three claims of misconduct.” Ubisoft has reportedly also suspended several other employees accused of abuse and misconduct. The company has also hired external law firms to investigate the allegations and is forming an internal group in order to find “better solutions and tools to detect, report and resolve” any incident or serious problem without delay, states Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier (thanks, Gamasutra)....

Speaking during its Q3 2022 call to investors, the subject of consolidation in the industry was brought up. Speaking on the subject, Ubisoft CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot assured that the company’s assets have “never been so strong at a time when the value of assets has never been so high” (thanks, GI.biz). When asked during the investor’s call if being in such a good position meant it was a good time to sell, Guillemot said the subject would be broached to the board of directors, but emphasized the company has the means to remain independent....

That’s according to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior art director Yujin Morisawa, who told The Washington Post that he opted to go bigger rather than smaller with early designs for the hardware. This was because he knew that the PS5 would require a sizeable amount of power and therefore keeping the machine cool was a primary focus for the design. Indie survival hit Valheim, which managed to sell over a million copies in a week, has be steadily growing in popularity on Steam and elsewhere. Over the weekend, the game broke its concurrent player record on Steam a couple of times. Its highest recorded peak ever was 367,443, which put it right below Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, according to Steam Charts. It and PUBG have actually been trading places, competing for the third spot for a couple of days now, though PUBG’s in-game players at the time or writing put it ahead of Valheim....

As a sandbox survival game, Valheim offers players immense freedom in how they overcome the game’s many challenges. As with all successful genre hits, Valheim has quickly become home to some clever ideas and useful engineering hacks. But perhaps none of it is more horrifying than Reddit user Leathermattress’ Greydwarf Toaster 5000, essentially an automated farm to constantly harvest Greydwarves and strip them down to wood and stone used to build everything in the game....

At today’s Summer Game Fest kick off live, we got treated to the first trailer for Season Four of Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War. The new season introduces free content to the game, as is standard. Today’s trailer gave us a look at three new maps for Black Ops Cold War multiplayer.Collateral for 6v6 and 12v12, Amsterdam for Gunfight 2v2, and Hijacked for 6v6. Warzone appears to be getting a new game mode, and the trailer also teased something new on the Outbreak side....

Wolfe is a returning character from Wasteland 2, where he was a recruitable companion - but he’s still not the friendliest. He’s not happy with how things went down in Arizona, which might explain his nickname “NaCl”, aka Sodium Chloride, aka Salt....

Arguably the biggest livestream of the week takes place today. Sony’s State of Play returns with another episode, this time dedicated to the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West. This will be our first ever look at Horizon Forbidden West gameplay, and the first time in nearly a year that we’re seeing Guerrilla Games’ anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn at all.
