Whether you’re collecting Bugsnax for a particular island resident or to expand your inventory, you’ll need to visit various locations across Snaktooth Island to find them all. As Bugsnax is a narrative adventure, you won’t be able to find them all right away; some can only be found during the night, in specific weather conditions or after completing certain quests, so you’ll need to revisit each area to complete your collection. Each Bugsnax comes with a description of how to catch them, what type of sauce they like or hate and what time of the day they appear, so make sure to check your in-game guide for hints. Your Grumpus pals will also give you very brief clues, but you’ll need to do some problem solving on your own. Luckily for you, we’ve created this guide so you can head to the right area to find each Bugsnax once they appear.
Bugsnax Location Guide: Where to find and how to catch every Bugsnax
Bugsnax: All the tools you’ll need
You’ll need to get creative when catching Bugsnax by using your wits and a combination of each tool. You’ll collect several tools from various NPCs, so here’s a look at your full arsenal:
SnaxScope - Can use this to scan interesting objects, Grumpuses and Bugsnax Bug Net - Use this to catch Bugsnax that don’t move or are dazed Buggy Ball - A guidable Strabby in a glass ball you can use to lure Bugsnax or chase out of their hiding places Sauce Slinger - Can be used to chuck sauce on or near a Bugsnax Snak Trap - Allows you to catch Bugsnax if they walk into its radius Snaktivator - Can transform the limbs of Grumpuses into different Bugsnax they have eaten Lunchpad - It’s a launchpad you can use to fire projectiles or yourself at Bugsnax or hard-to-reach places Snak Grappler - Can be used to grab Bugsnax that are out of reach as well as sauces Trip Shot - Stuns a Bugsnax when they run into its wire. Can’t stick to snow, sand or dirt but can conduct elements like fire and ice
You’ll need to be quick in setting up your traps, using a sauce lure or timing a Lunchpad release correctly, but you’ll get the hang of it eventually. Remember that you can use tool combos, such as attaching the Buggy Ball to the end of the Trip Shot to lure and catch Bugsnax.
More Busgnax become available as the story progresses, so don’t worry if you can’t find a particular one right away. Larger Boss Bugsnax can only be found by completing what are essentially loyalty missions for your Grumpus pals, so keep completing sidequests to unlock the Mama Mewon, Megamaki etc. You’ll also need to manage your inventory by donating Bugsnax to Gramble to increase your inventory size or feeding them to Snaktooth island’s inhabitants to turn them into very colourful individuals.
Bugsnax: Locations and how to catch them
You’ll start with basic tools like the Snak Trap and Sauce Slinger, but it won’t be long before you gather more tools. We’ve listed each Bugsnax we’ve found, where we’ve found it and, most importantly, how to catch them. If you want to problem-solve on your own, then I suggest closing this guide now, so consider this your only spoiler warning.
