The state of Cyberpunk 2077 on base consoles - PS4 and Xbox One - has been a matter of controversy for developer CD Projekt Red. The game suffers from severe performance issues on PS4 and Xbox One, with Digital Foundry calling it “unacceptable.” CDPR has since apologised to players stuck on these machines, promising several patches from now until February that will bring the game up to the standard seen on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X. Though the developer asked players to be patient, it understood that many would nonetheless prefer a refund. Since Cyberpunk 2077’s release, and before players started requesting refunds, some managed to stabilise the framerate using… unorthodox techniques. Reddit user Tylerjordan1994 discovered that firing a gun in any crowded area will force NPCs to disperse. Given the limited memory on the base consoles, simply looking away from panicked NPCs is enough to get them to vanish entirely, bringing the framerate closer to the target 30fps. It’s quite an ingenious trick, if it’s not a little sad players have to resort to doing this at all to get a stable performance. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Reddit user lpgabriel took a picture of the retailer’s Cyberpunk 2077 shelf displaying the note. To see this content please enable targeting cookies.
