As old and tiresome the Half-Life 3 jokes are, finishing the Half-Life story is something fans have wanted Valve to do for years. With Half-Life: Alyx on the horizon, many are wondering whether this is a one-off, or a return to the world of Half-Life. “Half-Life means a lot to us, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to refamiliarize ourselves with its characters, setting, and mechanics,” Valve’s Robin Walker told Game Informer. “There are Half-Life: Alyx team members who have been at Valve since Half-Life 2, and quite a few who go back to the original Half-Life,” he added, revealing that some team members have never worked on a Half-Life game before Alyx. For those people, returning to that world is something they want to do.
Walker wouldn’t say if that means Half-Life 3 is next, but he did confirm that Alyx would be the start of Valve’s return to the series. Whether that means more VR games or something else entirely, remains to be seen. “We absolutely see Half-Life: Alyx as our return to this world, not the end of it.” As we approach the launch of Alyx, Valve has been releasing new gameplay footage giving us a fresh look at how the game makes use of the tech. Half-Life: Alyx is out March 23 on for PC VR.
